Best New Poets

Each time we publish a new edition of Best New Poets, we suddenly have fifty new authors in the fold. As the BNP contributors tend to be an unusually active population, this results in a lot of news. Congratulations, for instance, are often in order. Scott Abels’ first full-length collection of poems, Rambo Goes to Idaho, was recently published by BlazeVOX. Scott’s poem “As Rambo Lay Dying” was published in Best New Poets 2011. BNP contributor Kimberly Grey has been selected as a 2012-2014 Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford. And Craig Blais’ About Crows has been selected for the 2013 Felix Pollak Prize in Poetry from the University of Wisconsin Press. His poem “Sister in the Airport,” which appeared in Best New Poets 2007, will be included in the volume.

We also have news about the 2012 edition. We’re pleased to announce that Matthew Dickman has signed on as guest editor. (Read his poem “Fire,” published in the New Yorker.) The open competition begins April 5 and runs until May 20. Get all of the details at the BNP web site.

Best New Poets also has its own Facebook page.
